Why Not Invest In Yourself?
Full disclosure: due to our profession of course there is going to be some bias here…but on the basis of it is mind boggling to us that people are willing to spend so much money on other things rather than in something that will make their quality of life better not to mention have a longer life. American’s spend A LOT of money per day on things that are considered non-essential. So, why do so many people think that health, wellness and fitness is something they either can’t afford or simply don’t want to pay for?
CNBC shared a study (linked below) showing the averages of what American’s spend annually on both necessities and non-essentials... I won’t list every one but on average a single American spends (annually) $1,100 on coffee, $583 on alcohol, $766 on entertainment, $237 on various subscriptions and $3,459 on dining out. Now, I’m not saying that I’m guilt free when it comes to some of this stuff…but your health should easily be priority over these other categories.
While fitness may be considered a luxury to some degree, with the amount of options we have both physically and through the internet…there really is no excuse on why you “cant afford” some kind of fitness regiment. Not to mention…eating healthy at home is exponentially cheaper than dining out for the majority of your meals. IF you absolutely can’t afford a gym for whatever reason- go on Youtube and look up at home workouts…they wont be ideal but it is better than nothing!
This brings me to my next point: while it is cheap to join an undisclosed brand name gym where they sound an alarm if you actually workout and serve pizza 3x per week…be realistic with yourself. $10 budget= $10 results. Make an actual investment in yourself with a real, qualified and experienced coach and get the results you actually want. We are willing to spend so much money on other things but when it comes to our health the budget is too tight.
